Calabria is a region in southern Italy known for its dramatic landscapes, rich history, and stunning coastline along the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas. It forms the “toe” of Italy’s boot shape, bordered to the north by Basilicata. The region is marked by a rugged, mountainous interior, especially in areas like the Aspromonte and Sila ranges, where dense forests and scenic trails attract hikers and nature lovers. Calabria’s coasts offer pristine beaches, clear turquoise waters, and charming towns like Tropea, known for its medieval streets and sea views. Calabria has a history that blends Greek, Roman, and Norman influences, which is reflected in its ancient ruins, castles, and the Greek-speaking communities that remain in some villages. The region is famous for its unique cuisine, which includes spicy ‘nduja sausage, Calabrian chilies, and fresh seafood, embodying a blend of Mediterranean flavors. Although often overshadowed by more famous Italian regions, Calabria’s authenticity, cultural heritage, and unspoiled beauty make it a hidden gem of southern Italy.

Capo Vaticano in Calabria is an enchanting experience that promises picturesque moments and serene coastal views in the most beautiful waters you may ever see. Setting sail from the shores of Tropea, our journey takes us along the rugged coastline adorned with towering cliffs and hidden alcoves. As our boat glides through the clear turquoise waters, we will marvel at the vibrant hues of blue that surround us, creating a tranquil and mesmerizing atmosphere. We then head to one of the most charming villages in Calabria, Scilla.
Here we will disembark. Chianalea in Scilla is a captivating small town that beckons us with its unique blend of seaside beauty and historical charm. As we meander through the enchanting streets of Chianalea, we’ll be greeted by a sensory delight of cliffside houses that overlook the glistening waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Day 4
Pizzo & Tropea
Pizzo, is a picturesque town in Calabria nestled along the stunning Tyrrhenian Sea coast.
It is steeped in history and boasts breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters. This morning our private driver take us on a short 30-minute ride to explore Pizzo. Perched atop a cliff with stunning sea views, Pizzo's historic center is a delightful labyrinth of narrow alleyways and charming pastel-colored houses. The settlement's origins trace back to the 1300s, evolving from a fishing village, a community of monks, to a fortified town. At the heart of the old town lies Piazza della Repubblica, offering a picturesque setting with outdoor dining options from gelaterias and restaurants overlooking the marina and castle. Make sure to pause at the 'Spuntini' viewpoint featuring the intriguing wire figure sculpture 'Il collezionista di venti' (the collector of winds). Venturing through the historic center, we’ll encounter local markets brimming with fresh produce, butchers, fishmongers, as well as artisanal and souvenir shops. From Piazza della Repubblica, gaze upon the panoramic vista, framing the 15th-century Murat Fortress, named after Joachim Murat, Napoleon Boneparte's brother-in-law and former King of Naples before his unfortunate fate.
We will also see Piedigrotta Church. Legend tells the story of a shipwreck and miraculously saved sailors who built the church in the honor of the saint that saved them.
Pizzo is also famous for inventing the delightful Tartufo di Pizzo, a delicious ice cream dessert that is a must try for food enthusiasts. There is a large variety of the most incredible ice cream dessert that made this region famous.
This afternoon we again enjoy the beautiful beach in Tropea and the lovely town.
This time of year, the amazing sunsets typically light up the volcanic Aeolian island of Stromboli
Hopefully we will catch the perfect sunset on our final evening in Calabria.
